About the Referral Scorecard

The purpose of the Online Referral Scorecard is to rate yourself on keeping in touch with your referral partners. Although the mechanics allow you to track almost any habit you want to develop by updating the action list, it was built with that in mind.

This tool grew out of a referral marketing class that I took through Crystal Synergies. They are a franchise of the Referral Institute. Part of the course materials is a spreadsheet that allows you to track the activities done to build and maintain relationships with referral sources. I liked the spreadsheet, but I thought an online version would be easier for me to maintain.

How Can This Be Free?

This project began as a proof of concept for more advanced web tools that I'm currently developing. In some ways it has been an experiment to help me understand what the potential bottlenecks are for other applications.

Several people who helped me with early beta testing encouraged me to consider making this a paid service. I'll admit there is some appeal to that, but my plan for this site is more far reaching. Many of the people who typically take referral marketing training also fall into the target market for my web design business. By making this tool freely available, I get to demonstrate my programming chops to this group.

Who Is Your Target Market?

Although I work with a wide array of businesses, I've noticed some of my favorite and most profitable past clients are service-based businesses with a single decision maker (as opposed to a committee). Looking for examples of specific industries? How about writers, professional speakers, and real estate agents?

What Is Your Unique Selling Proposition?

I make it very easy for site owners to update the content of their site without any special software or training. Sometimes that just means updating basic text pages. It can also mean photo galleries, event calendars, product catalogs, testimonials, or customer reviews.
